NEW WORK!

Ancient Horizon.  Frances Seward 2010

It has been a very exciting few days where i have sold two of my very large prints (40 x 30 inch) today as well as a couple of my smaller pieces.  my work looks the best large and i have had a lot of enquiries for these but i work with such beautiful museum paper my prices are not rock bottom!

i am uploading a few new images i created yesterday and very excited about them!  The second image has subtle gradations of light and shadows and almost ciaroscuro in feel (which essentially means light and dark).  The image is entitled:  Ancient Horizon.  It can be printed up to 40 x 30 inches.  The piece above it is Journey 4 - a piece I am also very excited about!  Notice what a difference it makes when i shoot this image in an interior.  this image is about 50 x 40 inches and is printed on CANVAS.  Check them out in my Etsy Store.

Weekend Snippets

I love to take walks when I can and these days I do not do it often enough but yesterday I took my 4 year old son, Quinn to a place we love best the Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve.  Actually very few people know about it but living in Santa Fe, NM in the deserts you would never know you were there when visiting this place.  It is like an oasis with 3 different ecosystems.  Yesterday was windy, rainy, cloudy - just like England and not like the northern deserts (except it does get the winds in March).  It has HUGE cottonwoods two hundred years old, so many birds you cannot imagine and south western plant, medicinal or not and a pond with bull frogs and more dragonflies than you will ever see.  You can watch the land change if you visit it all year round.  Well, it is only open between May and October but I was told by one of the volunteers that you can jump the fence if you are discreet.  So we did just that and spent 2 fun hours there.  It was like it was our land!  I tell people about it a little but they cannot seem to figure out how to get there.  Therefore, unless I go with them they can never find it.  It's very well hidden and it's a good thing.  It does not need hoards of crowded people.  I did not take pictures yesterday but here are a few from last summer.

What is your favourite hike or retreat?

a bit about me...

i need to write a bit about myself on this blog rather than uploading all of these images.  i am a dreamer but also very grounded.  nice combination don't you think?  but it isn't as easy as that.  after starting a family my life expanded but shrank at the same time.  i needed an outlet -- my work is my imagination, escaping to faraway places - but these places i go to are also deep within me, somewhere safe and centering.   I live in the high desert of new mexico and these are inspirations enough.  My work though is swimming in deep and distant waters and these bring me closer to where i belong - the british isles where i grew up.  strange though because when i lived in boston i could not stop creating photographs of the mountains!  how strange is that?
